Hiya everyone,
Are you prepared to delve into ancient libraries lined with dust laden bookshelves? To learn of eldritch secrets lost to time? Will your mind be the same afterwards? It is too late to look away! Witness now a tome from my ever expanding library!
Okay I may have been exaggerating just a little bit about the dangers of reading it. And the dust. I do my best to keep things clean and tidy but it always feels like a layer of dust appears right as I turn my back though. Dust fairies maybe? Oh right, the book. It’s actually a new addition to my collection. Well, relatively new. But I’m still excited about it! Today we are talking about:
Fabula Ultima!
This lovely TTRPG is heavily inspired by JRPGs, which have been a major influence on my creativity for as long as I can remember. Just reading through the rules already has my head spinning with ideas for characters and games to run using its system. And can we talk about how good the art is? Seriously, I want to be able to draw like that. Each step in character creation also seems like it has a genuine impact on your character, and it seems easy to see ways to link abilities and equipment to make a fun and effective character. I say seems because sadly I haven’t played. YET! I plan to as soon as I can convince some friends to play. Mechanics like villain reveals and escalating villains are also so cool. They bring a cinematic aspect that I intend to incorporate into other game systems I’m running games in.
Fabula Ultima really seems like a wonderful game system. The day I get to play or run a game can’t come soon enough. There are campaigns I’ve wanted to run in other systems, but it seemed like I’d have to twist and shoehorn other systems to fit the tone and playstyle I wanted. But Fabula seems perfect for them! Unsurprisingly it’s the campaign ideas inspired by the games I play. But hey, that just means they did a good job making a video game inspired TTRPG. On that note, it’s time for me to say goodbye for today.
Until next time,
Onwards to adventure!
