Dragon’s Hoard: Cradle by Will Wight

Greetings friends,

It is time once more for oneself to humbly present you with a peak at a treasure delicately plucked from a deadly labyrinth. One hopes that it will please your grace… er graces. Without delay I present y- wait, I mean one graciously presents you:

The Cradle series, by Will Wight

All right enough talking like Lindon did early on. It’s too formal for me to get across my excitement about this series and I’m clearly bad at it. My friend was suggesting it for months before I cracked open the first book. Which was a definite mistake. Before you ask no, it does not have anything to do with my enormous ‘To Be Read’ pile. Why would you even ask such things. An avid reader like myself would never allow a book to go unread long enough for it to gather dust. It was just… okay maybe it had a little bit to do with the pile. I have too many books and not enough time all right. But doesn’t everyone? Anyway, this series is amazing. Don’t let the fact that there’s like 12 books in the series scare you, it feels like the end comes too soon every time. I always want more. The cast of characters has slowly been expanding since book one and building into a nice large cast. And I mean, large casts are the best. I keep thinking ‘He can’t introduce a new character I’ll love as much as the rest of them, it’s simply impossible.’ And then he does! And I’ve fallen in love with each of the characters for different reasons and they have such a delightful dynamic as a group. I’ve always found a good group dynamic can be even more memorable than the plot itself. This plot though, this plot is definitely memorable even with the incredible dynamics. I swear every time Will answers a question I’ve been dying to know, he immediately replaces it with a new secret. (Mild spoilers incoming) Like the belt! The belt had me curious for so long and he kept taunting me with little bits about it! And it was a satisfying reveal too! It’s always the worst when there is a huge buildup and then the resolution is just well boring. Lackluster. Forgettable. But I haven’t experience that with Cradle at all and really the books feel like they just keep getting better and better.

The series really just hits so many of my favorite things so well. Interesting characters, funny banter, powerful relics, ancient evils, secrets and mysteries woven through the whole plot and so much more. Did I mention the awesome magic sword and mysterious spell book already? I really need to find the time to read the rest of it.

Until next time.

FIERCE DRAGON EXIT! Er, I mean onward to adventure!
